George was born on January 25, 1815 in Lee Co., VA, the son of George Travis and Margaret Johnson Timblin. He married Eliza Pennington Dodson ca. 1837. George was killed on September 5, 1885 in a buggy accident on his way home from Brookville: he was trapped and died underneath his horse. George was survived by his wife, Eliza. Their graves in Zion Cemetery are unmarked. George and Eliza were the parents of at least nine children: 1. Araminta Travis 2. Mary Ellen (Travis) Drummond 3. Charles Gaskel Travis 4.
